The Genesis Schools Story

More than 40 years ago, the Genesis Schools began. Genesis started as a preschool, teaching children and serving families in New Port Richey. In 1981, Dr. Melissa Nurrenbrock lovingly took the reins. Her mission was simple: help every student who came to Genesis find a love of learning that would fuel them throughout their lives. She did this by creating a school system that offers an independent education with the highest standards possible.
Generations of Genesis students know Dr. Nurrenbrock as Dr. Missy, but before she was a Head of School Melissa was a New Port Richey child herself. She spent her childhood in New Port Richey schools and communities, and later pursued a career in education. Dr. Missy has taught at every level, from preschool to college, and earned a Doctorate in Education. Her background in education and her history in West Central Florida inspired Dr. Missy to give back to the community by serving its families and children.
The love for the classroom and her roots in the community led Dr. Missy to expand and develop the Genesis Schools. The Genesis Schools now includes four locations and five different programs, educating students from 18 months to 18 years old.
One of the best moments for Dr. Missy is when she sees a former student return, with a new generation of Genesis learners in tow. At its core, the Genesis Schools is a family of learners committed to their community, to achievement, and to focus on every child’s unique talents and gifts.
